Why we do it

The idea of Storytrees, like many great ideas, came from a personal experience. My grandmother, who I loved dearly, passed away and I realised that my understanding of the person she was and how she shaped our lives was limited. And worse of all, I didn’t have access to anyone who could share first hand stories, memories and information about her early life and the character she was.

These feelings resurfaced when my mother fell gravely ill, which by then, I had children of my own. There was now a burning desire to ensure that my children knew and understood who their grandmother was. The experience reminded me of my own mortality, and more importantly, my duty to pass on my fond memories of both my mother and grandmother. So, I quickly realised, that if I was to pass away before my time, my children may ever know the wealth of history that they came from.

My mother and Granny never did anything that history would deem worthy of recording, but their impact on my family and the people closest to them was tremendous. I wholeheartedly believe that my children and their future children should understand and be proud of who they are and the sacrifices that were made so that they can live a joyful and truly fulfilling life.

I spent many years searching for a product on the market, somewhere I felt my memories would be respected, safe and secure. After not finding anything suitable, I decided to create my own online digital memorial platform, somewhere for everyone. Storytrees is unique as it is not just for those who have passed; it is designed to celebrate the stories of every one of us alive today.
